This represents a risk inherent in this kind of relationship: having your expectations raised due to an intense online connection, only to have them crash to the ground after a disappointing real-life meeting. This is more likely to happen, and likely to be more serious, the longer you and your online love wait to meet. They can be marvelous experiences while they last. In the case of online relationships, you do get to know a lot about each other, but you may still idealize the rest, including the aspects of them that might make the difference when you meet between fireworks and heartbreak.

Back Get Help. i know him well. he said he suddenly felt sad for some reason, but didnt say it was down to me. til i eventually made him tell me if it was. but i CANNOT meet him. I know its strange im saying that and not giving a reason. but its down to a lie ive told him. ok, now you have me curious! I am totally wondering what this 'lie' is. You don't have to tell us what it is but it may help is in giving you advice.
maybe it is something that he would be understanding of? Like if you lied about having a college degree, and you don't have one, if you come clean now, he may be ok with it. Or if you lied about being a size 4 when you are really a size What you have for him certainly isn't love - it's all about you "I feel" and "I want" and "I need" - by any definition, that's not love, that's being in love with love, that's neediness, etc. Obviously you lied to him because you don't want him to know the real you and it's convenient to hide behind a computer screen.
But the reasons you are reluctant to end this are not about him and what is good for him - they're all about you and your need to have him in your life, telling you how much he loves and wants you. That's not love and what he feels for you is based in part on a lie you told him that is important enough that you can't tell him the truth. So, as some of us said in the beginning, he is in love not with you but with what you've told him, some of which is a lie. You also give a bad name to those of us who have met people through online dating sites and been truthful about what we say in our profiles and with what we tell the other person about ourselves before meeting.
Your behavior perpetuates the image of on line as being a place where most people lie and mislead. It also makes it clear why you asked about falling in love on line in the first place - it's not really about whether you can make this work - you can't, you made sure of that by lying - it's just to continue to reassure you that all of this attention he gives you and all this time he spends typing and talking means the he is in love with you. As to whether you are in love with him - well, how ironic would it be if just as you lied to him, he lied to you?
Since you did that to him, who's to say he is not doing the same thing back? Why not, instead of musing about whether it is possible to fall in love on line, spend some time musing about whether this person deserves to be treated as you are treating him. I have been harsh but it sounds like you need "harsh" in order to do the right thing.
I hope you do. It will benefit you in the long run too. Zaphod Posted February 22, Are you the one who seems to be setting the times to talk or connect? He should be actively participating in scheduling the online date times.
If you are spending more time emailing and less time talking, video chatting or texting, this is not a good sign. At some point, the veil of ambiguity has to be lifted. Your online relationship should become more intimate through conversations and face to face connections, even if that means using video to do so. When will you meet? Although the jury is out as to when to meet your online interest, at some point, it has to happen. If days are suddenly weeks, and weeks have turned into months, something is amiss.

If you're talking to someone who is very consistent in their frequency of communication — and that frequency is frequent — that means a few good things. First, it means you are probably the only person they are talking to. They don't have time to email a dozen people multiple times a day. Second, it means they are ready to prioritize love. They don't just forget about their online dating account because work got busy or guests came into town. You both hit the "Perhaps we should meet" point at the exact same time.
This means, you act on the same instinct — your instincts respond to the same stimuli. Something about that last conversation you had said to both of you, "It's time to meet this person.
Odds are, if your timing matches up on that, it will match up on other things, like when you say "I love you" or when you decide to move in together. Are you thrilled to read their similar emails? That's wonderful. You want to be with someone who makes the small, insignificant parts of life fun and entertaining — someone whose perspective and humor on life amuses you.
Also, if you're thinking of someone when even the tiniest thing happens, they must have caught your attention somehow. You both think it's important to be single for three months, six months, or even two years after ending a serious relationship. First, it tells you how happy they are in their individual life — how fulfilled they are with their career, their social life, their hobbies, and so on.
An unhappy person looks to always have a relationship to fill their void. Next, it shows you how independent they are. If a person is okay with being alone for long periods of time, they most likely won't be an irrationally needy partner.

If you find yourself joking about these parts of your life with someone you met online, that's a very good sign. But if you've both met the same number of people, that means you are equally as selective. You both require the same amount or type of information from someone before committing to meeting them in person. That sameness in judgment when it comes to online dating probably translates to judgment in other parts of life. If you can "warn" someone about something about you, and to them it's not even a bad thing, you're on your way to a good thing.
Plus, the fact that you could tell them about that thing means they already make you comfortable.
